AQUATICS SUPERVISOR (SEASONAL) DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS

Department: DPW - PARKS, REC & CEMETERY
Location: Manchester, NH

AQUATICS SUPERVISOR - 6200

GRADE 16

PAY RANGE - $22.46 - $25.31/hr

General Statement of Duties:

Oversees and supervises pool operation, maintenance, safety and rescue activities at aquatic facilities; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work:

  • Works with the Recreation & Enterprise Manager in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of all aquatics division staff;
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates and coordinates the work of aquatic personnel;
  • Establishes and enforces standards of conduct for lifeguards, aquatics employees and the general public at municipal pools and surrounding facilities;
  • Provides in-service training to lifeguards to keep lifeguard certifications current;
  • Verifies lifeguard certifications, including checking expiration dates;
  • Provides recommendations for promotions and terminations;
  • Provides training and information to aquatics personnel on rules and regulations and information relating to pool and aquatic activities;
  • Completes administrative and record keeping assignments related to aquatics facilities and personnel;
  • Assesses daily and weekly facilities coverage, coordinates changes, and verifies payroll;
  • Monitors activities of patrons at public aquatic facilities;
  • Rescues swimmers in distress and performs life saving duties;
  • Oversees order at public aquatic facilities, including enforcing water safety rules, resolving conflicts, and furnishing information to the public;
  • Performs first aid to injured patrons;
  • Completes or oversees scheduling for lifeguards and other aquatic staff;
  • Resolves staff conflict issues;
  • Intercedes to resolve conflicts, complaints, and public relation issues that cannot be resolved by lifeguard personnel;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to other employees in the same or similar class of positions; and more..

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • High School Graduate;
  • Considerable experience in public aquatic facility activities; or
  • Any equivalent combination of certification, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications:

  • Current Lifeguard Certificate;
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer;
  • Current Lifeguard Certificate w/ Optional Waterfront preferred;
  • Current Lifeguard Instructor Certificate preferred
  • Certified Pool and Spa Operator preferred
